The Indiana Department of Education requires that each school corporation report information on annual dyslexia screening. At St. John we use a test called Rapid Automized Naming (RAN). During a RAN assessment, students are monitored naming familiar symbols (pictures, letters, and numbers) as quickly as they can without making mistakes. Our Title I teacher then reviews the student RAN testing and completes the scorecard to score the assessment. The RAN is used as a screening for reading difficulties such as dyslexia. In 2022-2023 there were 14 students at our school who were screened for dyslexia. There were no students who were at risk of dyslexia and no students who were at some risk for dyslexia.
